Mr. Nelson has a long history of entrepreneurship and in managing high growth companies. He is a Founder and Chairman of PharmBlue Holdings LLC, created to acquire and build excellence in pharmacy and related services. He is former CEO of PharmBlue and affiliated pharmacies, wholly-owned by PharmBlue Holdings. He drove a nearly tenfold increase in revenues and cash flow during his tenure as CEO, making PharmBlue into a specialty pharmacy provider national in scope.
He is Founder and CEO of Redwind Innovations LLC, an advisory firm focused on healthcare and technology-based innovation and early stage growth opportunities. He is also an investor and board member of Wyngate Capital, a specialty finance company focused on healthcare finance.
He is former President, Director and COO of Raleigh-based RadarFind Corporation, a high growth technology company serving the health care market. He oversaw all aspects of this company including direct and channel sales, marketing, hardware/firmware/software engineering, implementation & training and supply chain. Under his direction installations doubled, sales increased tenfold and production and new product development increased accordingly. He drove the acquisition of this company by Teletracking Technologies, Inc.
Prior to RadarFind, Mr. Nelson was President and Director of Boston-based Injured Workers Pharmacy, L.L.C. (“IWP”), a high growth national pharmacy serving the needs of patients in the Workers’ Compensation system, and specializing in drug therapy protocols for pain management. He was responsible for all operational and strategic aspects of this company. Under Mr. Nelson’s direction, IWP saw significant growth in sales and EBITDA margin as a result of new product offerings and an expansion of the existing sales force. He attracted 3 offers to purchase IWP from private equity investors.
From 2000-2004, Mr. Nelson was Managing Director for Redleaf Group, Inc., where he was responsible for sourcing and managing investment opportunities in the Mid-Atlantic region. He is a former board member of RedSiren, Moai Technologies and 61C Networks. He also served as an advisor to Red Creek Communications (sold to SonicWall) and Lumicyte. Mr. Nelson spent his early career (1980-2000) in progressively more responsible positions at PNC Bank Corporation culminating in his position as Executive Vice President and Manager of PNC’s VentureBank. He was the principal executive and founder of this merchant banking unit of PNC which targeted high technology and growth companies at all stages of development.
He has an interest in improving access to care and outcomes for the LGBTQ community. He is owner of a pharmacy that traces its roots back more than 15 years, principally serving the needs of those with retroviruses. He is a founding member of Pharmaceutical Access for Community-based Service Providers (PACSP), focused on advocacy for Ryan White Grantees and FQHC’s, promoting continued and expanded access to the Federal 340B Drug Pricing program. He has also spearheaded specialized pharmacy offerings tailored to the needs of the Transgender Community.
He earned his BS from the University of Pittsburgh and his MBA from the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business.
